U.S. Secretary of Energy visits SiNode
The SiNode team had a chance to meet with Secretary Ernest Moniz on his recent visit to Chicago. Given SiNode’s status as a DOE SBIR recipient and the winner of DOE’s 2013 National Clean Energy Business Plan Competition, the Secretary was pleased to learn more about the commercialization progress of SiNode’s proprietary battery materials.

AZ Electronic Materials and SiNode Systems sign Joint Development Agreement
Branchburg, NJ, and Chicago, IL (August 1, 2014) – AZ Electronic Materials (“AZ”), a business unit of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, and a leading global producer of high quality, high-purity specialty chemical materials used in the manufacturing of semiconductors, flat panel displays and LEDs, and SiNode Systems, Inc. (“SiNode”), a materials science company headquartered in Chicago, IL developing advanced materials for the energy storage market, announce they have entered into a Joint Development Agreement with the goal of commercializing graphene-based materials for lithium-ion batteries.

SiNode Systems was recently recognized as a successful example of the “Corporate-Startup Challenge” program conceived by the Illinois Innovation Council and managed by the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC). SiNode Systems receives $1 million of follow-on funding from U.S. Department of Energy
The SiNode team is pleased to announce the winning of a $1 million Phase II SBIR grant from the US Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). The follow on funding will be awarded under the vehicle technologies program to develop high energy density li-ion batteries for hybrid and electric vehicle applications over a period of two years. We would like to thank the Department of Energy for their continued support and belief in our team and technology.

New Seed Investment from Energy Foundry
We are pleased to announce that Energy Foundry will be joining our seed round of funding. Energy Foundry is an impact venture capital fund, created out of the Illinois Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act. The law directed Illinois electric utilities, ComEd and Ameren, to provide $22.5M for the creation of the fund, a first-of-its kind model to stimulate Illinois’ innovation ecosystem and to support the emerging energy-technology marketplace.
