Samir Mayekar

Prior to NanoGraf, Samir most recently worked with the business development team at Boeing Defense Systems.

He previously served in the Obama Administration at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the White House. Samir started his career as a management consultant in Chicago with Marakon Associates focusing on clients in the industrials sector. Samir holds a B.A. from Northwestern University (summa cum laude) and an M.B.A. with distinction from the Kellogg School of Management, where he was a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow. He is a guest lecturer on energy and entrepreneurship at Northwestern University.

Dr. Francis Wang
Chief Operating Officer

Francis's primary expertise is in the development of novel energy storage materials and systems for portable and stationary applications.

Francis received his Ph.D. in 1998 from the Department of Chemistry at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. His primary expertise is in the development of novel energy storage materials and systems for portable and stationary applications. His experience in energy storage spans a range of magnitudes from the very small (uW-mW) forms of storage for portable electronics & medical applications to the very large (kW-MW) for transportation and the grid. Francis has had a long career working in some of the world's largest battery and battery device companies such as Duracell, Boston Scientific and Proctor & Gamble. In 2011, Francis relocated to Beijing, China where he founded the Energy Storage Center for the National Institute of Clean & Low Carbon Energy, serving as Director until 2015. He is the author of over 39 US & International patents and 18 publications in energy storage.

Cary is a co-inventor of the core NanoGraf technology. He has expertise in research and development with graphene, silicon, and other materials.

His work includes developing flexible, high-energy composite materials as anode and cathode technologies for Li-ion batteries. He is an author on ten publications and two patents. Cary holds a PhD in chemical engineering from Northwestern University and has dual bachelor’s degrees in chemical engineering and chemistry from the University of Minnesota, as well as previous experience in computational chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and sustainability.

Josh leads product development and cell prototyping at NanoGraf to bridge materials R&D with customer needs.

His primary expertise is in cell design, modeling, and manufacturing. Prior to Nanograf, his academic research focused on characterization and design of solid-oxide fuel cell materials as well as failure analysis of lithium alloys. to He holds a B.S. and M.S. from Northwestern University’s school of materials science with an emphasis in nanotechnology.

Thomas has years of graduate level research experience in electrochemical energy storage devices at Northwestern University.

Thomas has years of graduate level research experience in electrochemical energy storage devices at Northwestern University. He is an expert on various material characterization techniques (S/TEM, XPS, DLS, FIB, FTIR, DSC) and highly proficient with fabrication and testing of Li-ion batteries, supercapactiors, and fuel cells. He holds a B.S in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University and is working on his PhD with Dr. Harold Kung at Northwestern, who is the co-inventor of Nanograf’s core technology. He is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

John has made significant contributions to the operations of wireless service providers for nearly twenty years.

He designed and implemented upgrades to Sprint's microwave communications networks in the Midwest, and he oversaw efforts to increase the capacity, improve the performance, and provide routing alternatives for Alltel's CDMA networks. In addition to his work as a transmission engineer, John developed the software and standard test procedures used to maintain Motorola's EVDO network and CDMA Radio Access Network. He holds a B.S.E.E. from the Illinois Institute of Technology and also served in the U.S. Army.
